Sam Schieren lives in Richmond, Virginia. His Fiction Has been published in The Iowa Review, Notch, Wigleaf, Southern Humanities Review, Gulf Coast,  Soft Union, The End, and Elsewhere. He teaches at VCU and is the Faculty Fiction Editor OF Blackbird. He won the Barry Hannah Prize for Fiction.
