Sam Schieren is from Valley Cottage, New York. He received a BA in English and Psychology from Tufts University and an MFA in Fiction from UC Davis. Winner of the Barry Hannah Prize in Fiction, his stories are published in The Iowa Review, Bellevue Literary Review, Gulf Coast, Southern Humanities Review, and Wigleaf among other journals. He currently lives in Richmond, Virginia and teaches at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is the reviews and interviews editor at Blackbird. His unpublished story collection Spaghetti Man was a Finalist for the 2025 Rising Writer Prize from Autumn House Press.
