Sam Schieren lives in Richmond, Virginia. He has published stories in The Iowa Review, Gulf Coast, Southern Humanities Review, Wigleaf, Notch, and Yalobusha Review, among other places. He teaches at VCU and serves as the reviews and interviews editor at Blackbird. He received a BA in Psychology and English from Tufts University and an MFA in Fiction from UC Davis. His unpublished story collection Spaghetti Man was a Finalist for the 2025 Rising Writer Prize from Autumn House. In 2024 he won the Barry Hannah Prize in Fiction.
